Ranger2 - A powerful, completely integrated schematic & PCB layout package, running on Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 or XP machines. Ranger2 software evolved from the popular Ranger1 software that was developed by Seetrax in the late eighties. Though looking dated it is a very powerful tool for PCB design that is now available for free via our download page.

The following facilities are included in Ranger2:

Schematic capture

Use the integrated schematic editor to capture the parts\wiring list information for your layout. Upto eight pages of inter-connected circuitry, with dynamic part move and connection stretching and auto part allocation of part and pin numbers.

Libraries

Master libraries of common devices and PCB footprints are included. They can be modified or new parts added as required. User-definable grids (to 0.001") allow accurate pad positioning.

Parts & wiring list entry

If circuit schematics are not required, parts & wiring information can be entered using the on-line editor, alternatively netlist data can be imported from an Orcad\Futurenet file.

Board layout

Connectivity from the schematic\parts\wiring list is maintained, so that as parts are moved, their inter-connections stretch or "rubber-band". Signal connections are automatically re-connected to display the shortest path.

Gate and pin swapping with automatic back-annotation to the schematic can be used to reduce connection cross-overs and aid routing.

Critical tracks can be manually routed before using the auto-router, vias being inserted automatically. Track highlighting can be used to indicate the position of selected signals.

Internal power planes and maximum copper areas can be generated and displayed.

Alterations and updates can be introduced to the layout, there is no need to start again.

Checking routines ensure the schematic and layout are the same.

Auto-Routing

Ranger2 comes complete with its own basic auto-router and a multi-layer rip-up and retry auto-router. For the more complex PCB designs, an interface to the Specctra Auto-Router is supplied. (The Specctra auto-router is no longer available from Seetrax.)

Outputs

Ranger2 comes with Gerber photoplotting and NC Drill output facilities as standard. These are in addition to outputs to printers/plotters, etc.
