From our conversations with many customers, there are a
few basic questions that will help you decide which
Seetrax or Ranger product will handle your designs. However, each
user has their own individual requirements and we are
always willing to answer your questions. Please feel
free to contact us.
If starting off with any of the Ranger products, an upgrade to any of
the other Seetrax Ranger products is available at very competative prices
- see our price list for details.
All the Seetrax Ranger designs and libraries are upwards compatible.
- Do you require split power plane support?
If so, you would need to consider Ranger XL or Seetrax XL Designer.
(Ranger2 XL supports individual power planes only.)
- Do your designs require blind or buried vias?
If so, you would need to consider Ranger XL or Seetrax XL Designer.
- Do your designs use surface mounted parts?
All the Ranger products are designed to handle surface mounted parts.
- How many rectangular pads do you use per design?
Ranger2 XL has a limitation of upto 32 different rectangular pads and
32 square pads per design. This can be an issue if a variety of
smd's are in use on each design. Ranger XL and Seetrax XL Designer
don't have these limits.
- Do you require an auto-router?
All the Ranger products have our own rip-up and retry auto-router
and a .dsn output for input to the Electra and Specctra auto-routers.
They all have an interface to the Elecctra
auto-router and Specctra auto-routers.
- How many artwork layers do you require?
The number of board layers doesn't tend to be an issue, but
Ranger2 XL has a maximum of 16 layers per design whilst Ranger
XL and Seetrax XL Designer have 64 layers.
- How many different power rails do your designs contain?
Ranger2 XL has a limit of upto 16 different power rails per design,
whilst Ranger XL and Seetrax XL Designer have a limit of 256.
- and finally....... How much money do you have to spend?
When comparing Ranger's, you get what you pay for, so the more
expensive products have more features - but as you will have
noticed, you may not need them!
(The entry level is the free Seetrax XL Designer Lite version,
followed by the Ranger2 XL/500 pin version, then moving upwards in
pecification and price to the full Seetrax XL Designer software.)
Your answers should give you an idea which Ranger will suit your
designs.
Still not sure? There is a comparison list here
that may help, but please feel free to contact us as well.
